Interior Design Tips: Set the Mood Using Color Psychology

I studied psychology in college, but my true passion has always been art. After I earned my bachelor's degree, I decided to start an interior design business, and I soon realized that I could put my psychology knowledge to good use when helping my clients makeover their homes. Before we choose the color schemes for each room, I love teaching my clients about color psychology and how much the colors we choose to use in each room can affect their moods and the moods of their family members when they are inside of them. When I notice clients are tense, I suggest they stay away from reds in their room designs and integrate calming blues. I decided to create a blog to share many more of my design tips, and I hope you can put my tips to good use when decorating your home! Enjoy reading!

How To Select Landscape Photography For Your Home

Decorating your home in a way that matches your style isn't always easy. People print family portraits, buy abstract paintings, sculptures, and cheap prints from chain stores that are identical to ones you'll see in dozens of other places, in an effort to bring style into their home. But decorating your home with fine art landscape photography is a great way to add character by doing something out of the ordinary. Here are a few ways that you can choose landscape photography for your home that will work for you.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Not every room is going to have a window, and sometimes even if they do, the view is only of other buildings. Though cityscapes can be beautiful, having no elements of nature can cause a space to feel uninviting. For rooms without a view of nature, landscape photography is ideal for replacing the view that a window would provide and adding necessary coziness.

Somewhere Special

The places that are important to you say a lot about who you are. Whether it's where you first met your partner, a favorite place you've traveled to, or somewhere you wish to go, featuring a professional landscape shot of this location will infuse a room with your personality.

Color

Another way to select a landscape photo is by working off of the colors already existing in a room. The colors you choose to decorate with are personal and the photography that you choose to add to a room can accentuate them. Choose photos that share similar hues as an area rug, plants in the room, or an accent piece of furniture.

Alternatively, you can choose photos that add an element of contrast. Maybe you want the photo to stand out with its own pop of color. Or you can have a black and white landscape photo for a monochromatic modern look.

Space

Consider the wall you are trying to dress up. Sometimes empty walls are awkward shapes. Long blank hallway walls are typically a tricky area to fill but they are the perfect place to utilize a sweeping panoramic landscape photo. Tall walls near staircases that span multiple levels are a good place to feature elongated shots of trees like California redwoods.

Seasonal

Though most art in a home is left up year-round, consider having seasonal landscape photography prints that you rotate throughout the year, as a way to really embrace the seasons. Have photos with soft green buds and pastel flowers in the springtime, deep luscious greens of rolling hills for summer, vibrant jewel-toned foliage for the fall, and dream black and white snowy pictures for the winter.

Landscape photography is as diverse as every individual so no matter what your personal style is, there is fine art landscape photography that will make a great addition to your home. Contact a landscape photographer to inquire about their fine art landscape photography prints.
