Interior Design Tips: Set the Mood Using Color Psychology

I studied psychology in college, but my true passion has always been art. After I earned my bachelor's degree, I decided to start an interior design business, and I soon realized that I could put my psychology knowledge to good use when helping my clients makeover their homes. Before we choose the color schemes for each room, I love teaching my clients about color psychology and how much the colors we choose to use in each room can affect their moods and the moods of their family members when they are inside of them. When I notice clients are tense, I suggest they stay away from reds in their room designs and integrate calming blues. I decided to create a blog to share many more of my design tips, and I hope you can put my tips to good use when decorating your home! Enjoy reading!

Picture frames can enhance the appearance of any photograph or artwork. They can also add a touch of personalization to any room in your home.

If you are looking for a unique way to frame your favorite picture, consider creating a custom picture frame. This article explores how to create a custom picture frame that is large enough to fit almost any size print.

Take Measurements

Taking measurements is an essential step when creating a custom picture frame, as it ensures that the custom frame will fit the artwork properly. Without precise measurements, you risk having a custom frame that is too small or large for your print.

When taking measurements for a custom picture frame, leave room for matting and other components. For instance, say you have a fine print that you want to frame, you should measure the custom frame at least a couple of inches larger on all sides to allow for matting and hardware.

Keep in mind the custom picture frame should be large enough to fit your artwork but not so large that it will look out of proportion. You don't want the custom frame to overpower or distract from the artwork.

Create the Mat

When creating custom frames, it's important to include a mat. This will act as a border between the artwork and the custom frame. It also adds an artistic touch to the custom frame.

When choosing a mat for custom picture frames, consider your artwork's color palette and texture. For instance, if your artwork is a black-and-white print, you may want to choose a neutral-colored mat that won't clash with the artwork.

The mat should also provide contrast and texture to your custom picture frame. For instance, you might choose a deep brown mat with faint gold accents for a custom frame with a black and white print. Likewise, you might choose a white mat with a hint of sparkle for a custom frame containing an abstract painting.

When creating a large custom picture frame, you also need to consider the size of the mat. For example, if you are custom framing an extra-large print, you may opt for a thicker mat that will add more depth and contrast to the custom frame.

The key is to find a mat that will complement the custom frame and artwork without overwhelming either. So, when selecting the mat for large custom picture frames, take your time. You want the custom frame to be aesthetically pleasing, not overly busy.
